Turkish pianist and composer Fazil Say (1970) is without exaggeration the darling of the Brno audience, whose hearts he won in January 2009 with his performance of Saint-Saëns’ Second Piano Concerto. He made an even greater impression in Brno as artist-in-residence in the 2013/2014 Philharmonic season, when he presented himself in his dual role of performer and creator: Brno audiences will remember the memorable performances of Say’s First Symphony “Istanbul” (which combined the sound of a symphony orchestra with traditional Turkish instruments) and the Concerto for Trumpet and Orchestra (with Gabor Boldoczky as soloist), or Say’s unforgettable solo performance in Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 21 in C major. Also memorable was Say’s recital in the spring of 2014, which coincidentally was also the christening by fire of the new Steinway piano newly purchased for the Besední Dům; the audience’s interest in the concert was enormous, the hall was bursting at the seams, and chairs for the audience were placed for the first time in the history of the Besední Dům, even on the stage around the piano. There was no end to the standing ovations… There could hardly be a better invitation to Say’s performance of Beethoven’s Third Piano Concerto than a reminder of his previous performances in Brno.Enjoy listening to:
