Symphony No. 7 E major WAB 107Filharmonie Brno
conductor Dennis Russell DaviesFilharmonie Brno enters its 69th season under the leadership of Principal Conductor Dennis Russell Davies, for whom this will be his seventh season at the helm of our orchestra. The concert programme will commemorate two of this year’s jubilarians: the founder of Czech national music Bedřich Smetana and the eminent Austrian symphonist Anton Bruckner. This year marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of both Romantic era greats. Dennis Russell Davies headed the Bruckner Orchestra in Linz for fifteen years before his Brno engagement as chief conductor. Thanks to his frequent performances of Bruckner’s works there, he became deeply immersed not only in the music of this native of Ansfelden (now a suburb of Linz), but also in its interpretative specifics and pitfalls. He is thus one of Bruckner’s renowned conductors and every performance of a Bruckner work is a powerful experience. In Brno he has already conducted the First, Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Symphonies, and now we can look forward to the Seventh.
